Special delivery at local convenience store

On the morning of Tuesday December 10, a young couple pulled into the Santa Ana 7-Eleven parking, not for gas or a drink, but for a baby that was ready to be born.

Allan Su and his wife Trisha Huynh of Garden Grove were traveling to the hospital in Kaiser for the delivery of the child Huynh was carrying.

When Su told his wife to hold on, her reply was for him to pull over at once, which is how the couple ended up in the 7-Eleven parking lot. Once there, Su called 911. His call was answered by dispatcher Mishelle Richards, who talked him through the delivery process step by step.

According to Su, Richards did a wonderful job delivering the instructions, including how to handle the umbilical cord being wrapped around the baby’s neck.

Soon after the birth, paramedics were on the scene to take the mother and child to the hospital. Both Huynh and her newborn son Liam Su are fine and will soon be at home with dad.

Banner printing services are sometimes called upon when proud parents or grandparents want to announce the arrival of a son or daughter.

While this may have been Su’s first time delivering a baby, it was not a new experience for Mishelle Richards. Liam Su makes the 13th baby the dispatcher has helped bring into the world in her 20 years on the job.
