Huge numbers of voters have already returned their ballots, with Orange County locations like Santa Ana noticing the shift.
The United States Election Project reports that as of October 14, more than 11 million voters have handed in their ballots. This is compared to one million returned ballots during this same period during 2016’s election.
Neal Kelley, the Orange County Registrar of Voters, is now working on his fifth presidential election and told abc7.com he has never seen numbers like this. He is amazed to see that this year’s ballot returns are up by close to 500%, and said
“It’s a flood, it’s a flood and I look back at the data from 2016, we’re 80,000 ballots ahead of where we were at the same time period, so voters are obviously energized and engaged. We just mailed these ballots a few days ago.”
More people than ever before are voting by mail, although some still show up at the Registrar of Voters to cast their vote. Of the 105,000 ballots to have been turned in by Wednesday, 80,000 came in via mail while 20,000 were left at the drop Boxes. Graphic design can be used to illustrate how mail-in ballots are used.
For those who wish to vote in-person, Vote Centers in Santa Ana will open on Friday, October 30.
