San Leandro to highlight locally owned businesses

San Leandro is running an event that puts a spotlight on the community in a fun way in mid-July.

Restaurant Week is an event held at varying times across the country. Established in 1992 by the creator of the famous Zagat Survey, the event began in New York City, slowly spreading as time went on.

The local edition started in 2023. The goal of the week is to give both locals and tourists the chance to try a variety of food. Participating businesses span several cuisines and price levels. Each will create special Menus for the event, giving those who may normally be wary of the prices a chance to try a less expensive option. It’s also common among restaurant weeks for participating businesses to have several tiers of bundled together items as a sort of meal package, offered at multiple price points.

Last year’s participants included venues like YoYo Treats, Dough Zone, Moussaka Kitchen, King Kong Imperial Garden Restaurant, Banju Bay, Fifth Wheel Cafe, Emil Villas Smokehouse BBQ, Porky’s Pizza Palace, and Le Soleil Vietnamese Noodles & Grill.

Participating is free, aside from the costs of buying the food. Flyer printing is a common promotion technique for both restaurants and community events.

The now annual Restaurant Week will be taking place from July 14 to 20 at the participating restaurants.
