Safety first at San Leandro law event

San Leandro citizens will soon be on the beat with the help of local law enforcement officers in August.

Known as the National Night Out, this event is intended to reinforce the importance of crime and drug prevention throughout California. San Leandro is one of many regions slated to take part.

This year's gathering is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch; an organization focused on fostering a collaboration between residents, and local neighborhood police precincts.

This year's National Night Out will focus on several key principles, including augmenting crime awareness, generating support for local law enforcement efforts, and strengthening partnerships between police and San Leandro citizens.

Participants are likewise provided with many attractions. Potluck raffles, community barbecues, block parties, family-oriented games, and cleaning up local parks are some examples. This year's National Night Out may also be used to discuss the implementation of a neighborhood watch program.

Those who wish to participate should turn on the outside lights of their homes, lock their doors, and be prepared to spend an evening on the streets with fellow neighbors.
