Rock and punk on tour together to San Diego

An indie garage punk band and a rock outfit are on tour and will stop in San Diego.

Shannon and the Clams are a punk outfit that got their start in Oakland, California, while Alabama Shakes formed (of course) in 2009 in Alabama. Alabama Shakes’ sound is a mix of soul, garage rock, Southern rock, blues rock, Americana, and roots rock. They cite AC/DC and Led Zeppelin among their influences.

They got their big break in 2011, when their EP “Alabama Shakes,” got them an invitation to appear in New York City at the CMJ Music Marathon industry showcase, where they won critical praise. In November 2011, Rough Trade Records in the UK and ATO Records in the US signed them. In 2012, their debut album “Boys & Girls” was certified Gold. They have been nominated for several Grammys including “Best New Artist.” A review says:

‘The best concert I have seen in a very very long time. It was so much more than I ever imagined.”

Shannon and the Clams has a vintage sound with touches of surf, classic R&B, doo-wop, and garage psych mixed in, such that they have been compared to the girl groups of the 1960s as well as Buddy Holly. A review noted:

“The raw intensity of their music leaves bruises to the soul and the heart.”

The concert is August 10 at the Cal Coast Credit Union Amphitheater. When they book shows like this, organizers often use poster printing methods to promote them.
