Celebrated songwriter featured in San Diego

A man responsible for some of the most popular hits in rock music is coming to San Diego.

Jack Tempchin, a San Diego native, first gained notice when he was a member of The Funky Kings, who signed with Arista Records in 1976. In 1977, Johnny Rivers recorded their song “Slow Dancing (Swayin’ to the Music),” which made it into the Billboard Top 10.

His breakthrough came with the work he did with The Eagles. He is the composer of their smash hit “Peaceful Easy Feeling,” and co-wrote other classics like “It’s Your World Now,” “Somebody,” “The Girl from Yesterday,” and “Already Gone.” “Already Gone” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling” appeared on The Eagles’ “Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975” album, which the RIAA called the “Best Selling U.S. Album of the 20th Century.”

During the 1980s, Tempchin worked closely with Glenn Frey, co-writing songs like “Smuggler’s Blues,” and “The One You Love,” which were huge hits for Frey and boosted his career as a solo artist.

In addition to his work with bands, his music is often heard in films and on television. His work was featured in “Thelma & Louise” and “The Big Lebowski,” and he is the co-writer of the theme song for the TV series “7th Heaven.”

Jack Tempchin will be at Humphreys Backstage Live, located at 2241 Shelter Island Drive, on January 23. When they schedule shows like this, organizers will often use brochure printing to create programs for the audience.
