What's Happening in San Diego - Carmel Mountain, CA…

Science and fun for San Diego next month

An event promising the fun and opportunity in science is coming to San Diego.

The San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering is returning to Petco Park for a full day of learning and fun. The Festival is the largest STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) event in Southern California, and was started more than 15 years ago. At the time, it focused almost exclusively on engineering and science, with the idea of providing experiences in science to diverse communities.

The Festival was a huge success from the start, spurring it to evolve into what it is today: a comprehensive event for all of San Diego County that celebrates the area’s diversity, and inspires young people to learn more about STEAM to encourage them to work toward careers in the field. The organization wants young enthusiasts to understand that working toward a career in STEAM is a realistic goal, regardless of their socio-economic status, race, or gender.

One of the highlights of the event is the STEAM Design Contest, which is open to San Diego County students in grades K through 12. The students who win will receive a stipend of $150 for their teachers’ classrooms, an invitation to an MVP luncheon, and their designs will be on display at the Festival where more than 16,000 people will see them.

The festival is set for March 1, from 10.00 am until 5.00 pm. Events like this are often advertised with posters, which organizers can have designed and produced at print shops.
