Multi-instrumentalist singer/producer coming to San Diego

A Grammy-nominated artist who has become internationally famous for his production techniques and orchestra-type arrangements is coming to San Diego.

Cornelius is the creation and alter ego of Keigo Oyamada, who has been performing since he was a teenager. He founded the band Flipper’s Guitar in Tokyo, and then left to pursue a solo career. He has taken the name Cornelius after the character in “Planet of the Apes.”

He received international recognition for his 1997 album “Fantasma,” which showcased his “cut-and-paste” technique, which critics have compared to the work of The Beastie Boys, and Beck. His arranging and producing have given him an international reputation that has enabled him to work with artists such as James Brown, Bloc Party, Beck, and others.

In 2002, Cornelius released his album “Point,” which represented a major shift in his work, abandoning “found sounds” to create gorgeous soundscapes using organic elements on loop. For instance, he used drops of water for the rhythm in “Drop,” the fourth track on his album “Point.”

Cornelius’s live shows are noted for their custom lighting, synchronized visuals, and a full band. A review says:

“ . . . everything felt new and fresh and immediate. I'd travel around the world to see this again.”

Cornelius will be at the Music Box in San Diego on September 21. Planners of events like this will often find poster printing is effective in promoting them.
