Preparedness fair returns to Northridge this fall

The 10th annual Valley Disaster Preparedness Fair is taking place next month in Northridge, and is a presentation of the Southern California Preparedness Foundation.

Emergency preparedness starter kits will be handed out while supplies last (one will be given to each family). Guests will also enjoy free hot dogs, burgers, and veggie burgers from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM.

There will be plenty of special guests making presentations, including the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Red Cross, and the Southern California Gas Company. There will be seminars given by such figures as Eric Boldt, Dr. Jill Barnes, and Frank Borden.

There will be demonstrations, exhibits, and cooking demos using a Dutch oven, solar oven, or grill. There will also be a blood drive from Cedars-Sinai, raffles, and ham radio hands-on activities. In addition, information about pet preparedness will be given.

For the children, there will be Yogi Bear’s Shakey-Quakey schoolhouse, a safety puppet show and free IDs.

This important fair will likely be widely advertised in the Northridge area by using products supplied by a local Stationery printing company.

The Valley Disaster Preparedness Fail will be held at the Northridge Fashion Center on October 7, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Admission is free of charge. To learn more, visit the information page on the Northridge Chamber of Commerce website.
