Orchestra and ballet coming to The Valley

The Valley Performing Arts Center and The Ford Signature Series will soon present the Spanish Harlem Orchestra (SHO). This year’s performance will feature guests from the Ballet RED.

The SHO has won two Grammys for its Salsa and Latin Jazz band recordings. It offers New York-style salsa, which organizers describe as “hard-core”.

The orchestra specializes in bringing high-energy music performed in precise Latin rhythm patterns to audiences. The group will be led by pianist and arranger Oscar Hernández and will perform, among other pieces, “Salsa Navidad”. Attendees will hear sounds that the group has described as dedicated to preserving the integrity of the barrio. Some guests may wish to browse the Promotional Products offered by the group, or purchase one of their four albums.

LA-based Ballet Red, a non-traditional dance company led by director and choreographer Josie Walsh, will be visually accompanying the performance. The troupe will be giving a lively visual interpretation of the evening’s music to add another dimension the musical performance.

The concert will be given Saturday, December 5, starting at 5:00 pm in the Great Hall, on the California State University Northridge campus, 18111 Nordhoff Street, Northridge. Ticket prices vary depending on seating from $30 to $60. Parking will cost $6. Proceeds will go towards supporting the Ford Theatre Foundation, which benefits varies artistic programs throughout Los Angeles County.
