Northridge area native habitats are in need of some helping hands, and the public has been asked to lend their support to an effort that will truly be “grass roots”.
The Mountains Restoration Trust is seeking volunteers to aid with its efforts to reestablish native grasslands in Juan Bautista de Anza Park. There is no charge to take part, but preregistration is required.
Those who come out for the morning will be installing native grasses such as creeping wild rye and purple needle grass, along with a variety of flowering shrubs and other plants that were originally found on the site. They are asked to wear a hat and bring along a water bottle, and it has been advised that comfortable work clothes and closed-toed shoes be worn. The tools needed for the work, as well as gloves, will be provided.
This volunteer opportunity ton open to all, but anyone under age 18 will need to have a signed parental consent form, and anyone age 16 or under must have adult accompaniment. Stationery printers can craft any Forms and other materials needed for this type of occasion.
