Individuals in and around Northridge have a chance get some exercise and raise money for a good cause.
The 6th Annual Stop Cancer Run and Walk will help support cancer research.
The chip-timed race will take participants on a flat, scenic route near Lake Balboa and the Woodley Lakes Golf Course. Prior to the race, there will be a group warm-up. Streaming video technology will allow runners to see themselves crossing the finish line.
After the race, participants can enjoy food trucks and music, see clowns, and have their faces painted. Ronald McDonald, the ‘Stop Cancer’ mascot, and Vanna White will make appearances.
The 5K registration costs $35 for adults and $25 for youths aged 14 and under. The 10K registration runs $45 for adults and $35 for youths. After September 11, the 5K price increases $10 and the 10K costs $5 more. Online registration ends on September 17 at midnight.
Participants will receive finisher’s medals, swag Bags, and T-Shirts. In addition, top finishers and fundraisers will be given prizes. Event organizers likely used banner printing to make large Signs to welcome participants to the races.
The 10K run kicks off on September 20 at 8:00 am followed by the 5K at 8:15 am. Race day registration begins at 6:30 am. The awards ceremony will begin at 9:30 am.
It all starts at Woodley Park, located on 6350 Woodley Avenue in Van Nuys. Street parking will be available.
