During an inaugural event, students will have the opportunity to take part in hands-on activities concerning local Native American tribes.
The 2014 'California Indian Day' is geared towards third and fourth graders. During the program, students will learn about geography, music, and culture in relation to local tribes. The educational department aims to help make people more culturally aware, while also aiding educators in their pursuit to adopt more Native American subject matter and align it with academic standards.
While this is a free event, individuals need to RSVP because the workshop is limited to 200 students. In order to secure a spot, people can call 818-837-0794 and speak with Pamela Villasenor or they can register on Event Brite. Waiver Forms will also need to be submitted.
In order to make this event possible, the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians has partnered with California State University Northridge, otherwise known as CSUN. The four-year university frequently hosts cultural events and is the hub of the San Fernando Valley.
The organizers may have asked a flyer printing company to create a handout to pass out in the local Northridge community. Flyers are also easy items to post around a college campus.
