Northridge, California was briefly called North Los Angeles to drive home its proximity to that burgeoning city; however, the name was too easily confused with North Hollywood and Los Angeles. Prior to 1929, the community was called Zelzah. In 1938 the name Northridge was chosen for what has now become a Los Angeles neighborhood and thanks to the California State University, Northridge (CSUN) a significant supplier of teachers K-12 for the region.
