Bugs invade college campus

This month, those with a green thumb have the opportunity to learn how insects can be helpful to gardeners.

California State University Northridge (CSUN) will host a free class called ‘Insect Friends with Benefits’. Leading the class, entomologist Jim Hogue will teach students how to find and use certain bugs, and other crawly creatures, to better their garden. Hogue will also show them how to nurture these helpful garden insects.

Beneficial insects can help limit the number of pests in a person’s garden via a method popular with organic horticulturalists. Ladybugs, lacewings, and predatory bugs are some of the creatures that can benefit a garden.

Interested individuals can register for the class through email. This is a necessary step to secure a spot in the class and also learn more information about the location of the workshop, along with the parking specifics.

Founded in the late 1950s, CSUN is a four-year university situated in Northridge. The gardening class is an opportunity for the college to attract prospective students to the campus. Universities offering days like this one often seek help from a Print company to make a colorful brochure to be distributed on or before the event.

The class is free to attend and will take place on August 16 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. CSUN is located at 18111 Nordhoff Street.
