Adventurers prepare for hike

Individuals with an adventurous spirit can take a workshop to help them prepare to hike Mount Whitney.

REI in Northridge is offering a free class called ‘Preparing for Mount Whitney’. A specialist from the retailer will lead the workshop.

During this session, participants will learn about applying for a permit, picking out the proper supplies, and bringing the right food. Tips for mapping out a route and training for the hike will also be shared. Participants may be encouraged to take part in hikes for REI’s Outdoor School.

REI is a nationwide retail chain that carries supplies, clothing, and shoes for outdoor adventures and fitness. The stores, including the Northridge location, host a variety of classes each month. Along with hiking skills, classes may be on such themes as camping, rock climbing, or even learning how to ride a bike. Some classes are free while others require a fee.

This workshop is limited to 40 people. To reserve a spot, individuals can register on the REI website.

At an elevation of over 14,500 feet, Mount Whitney has the tallest peak in California. No doubt the event organizers will want to use a printing company to make Flyers to inform local hikers and mountain climbers about this informative event.

The workshop takes place on January 7 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Northridge REI, located on 18605 Devonshire Street.
