What's Happening in Placentia, CA…

Yearly festival offers Mexican flavor

The 19th Annual Placentia Tamale Festival and Las Posadas will be held in town soon, offering a family friendly annual celebration of the popular Mexican dish. This year, the festival will be held in conjunction with Las Posadas.

Tamales are a traditional Mexican dish where meat is seasoned while it is cooked, generally by frying. It is then wrapped in a cornmeal dough, then steamed or baked in corn husks. Due to its simple nature, a wide variety of ingredients can be added to create a unique dish

The festival was established to honor the venerable treat and to bring people from the community together in a fun-filled atmosphere. Tamales will be made and sold at multiple restaurants downtown, and there will be music by Mariachi Divas and some caroling. There will also be a visit from Santa, who will be giving out toys as part of a tree lighting ceremony. Those who plan to attend may wish to have flyers made to distribute to promote their favorite tamale or restaurant.

The festival will run from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm in Old Town Placentia, in the 100-200 blocks of Santa Fe Street, Placentia, on Wednesday, December 9. Restaurant hours and costs for tamales will vary by establishment, so guests should check the details of any they particularly plan to visit.
