Placentia's Bruery offers unique tea beer

In the hyper-competitive world of craft beers, brewers are constantly seeking novel ideas to make their label stand out from the rest. Placentia, California-based The Bruery may have hit upon just such an eye-catching idea, and perhaps something more.

The brewer has combined beer with another venerable beverage, Earl Grey tea, to create a drink they call Girl Grey. The tea beer was created as a collaboration between Bruery founder Patrick Rue and Top Chef winner Brooke Williamson, and became available earlier this year.

Beer and tea conjure opposing cultural images, and many may question how the two tastes could possibly mesh. However, craft beer specialist Matt Thomas has described Girl Grey as having "subtle flavors of bergamot orange and spicy notes" and a "rich mouthfeel". The brew also should not be underestimated as a drink, with a 8.5 alcohol-by-volume ratio.

Placentia's Bruery was founded in 2008 as part of an explosion of craft breweries, which took on big beer companies through rich flavors and charming local appeals. To get the word out, breweries of this size often depend on clever Logo Design, poster printing for local pubs, social media outreach, and old-fashioned word of mouth.

The Bruery has now become too large to be called micro-anything, with dozens of brews available and a new store opening in Washington, D. C.
