The 4th annual Tamale Festival is taking place at the end of this month in nearby La Habra. It is presented by the La Habra Recreation Division.
This is the largest festival of its kind in Orange County and it attracts visitors from all over the area.
Local restaurants and caterers will be competing to be named providers of the Best Tamale, Best Dessert Tamale, Best Salsa, and Hottest Salsa. The contest entry is $10 per entry, and the winners will be announced at 12:45 pm.
Vendors will also be on hand to sell food and merchandise. Fees are $200 for merchandising vendors, $500 for non-profit food, and $700 for regular food providers.
There is also a churro eating contest that will be open to the general public, raffles, and musical entertainment from artists such as Soto and Mariachi Espectacular.
Added this year is the city’s tree lighting ceremony, which is scheduled to take place at 5:30 PM.
Organizers have sought services such as poster printing to help advertise this event to surrounding communities, with Placentia likely to be among the areas targeted.
The Tamale Festival will be held at the La Habra Community Center on November 26 from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Admission is free of charge. To learn more, or to become a vendor, contact Katie Elmore at 562-383-4205.
