Golfers tee off for good cause

This month, residents in Placentia can enjoy a round of golf while making a difference, as the Leon Owens Foundation is hosting its annual charity golf tournament.

The tournament costs $200 per person or $800 for a group of four. Along with golfing, there will be a dinner banquet at the country club, various tournament awards, and a silent auction raffle. Tickets can be purchased on the foundation's website.

The foundation is a non-profit organization committed to helping the community. Created in memory of Leon Owens, the foundation aims to give back to others through educational scholarships, volunteer efforts, and other financial means. Owens was a family man who was an active volunteer and civic leader in the community.

Various sponsoring opportunities are available for the competition. Choices range from a $3,000 ‘platinum sponsorship’ to a ‘bronze sponsorship’ where the individual chooses the amount of the donation. To promote the sponsors, the event organizers have probably used a local banner printing establishment. A banner with the company’s logo and graphic could be printed on nylon or vinyl, and displayed at the tournament.

The event takes place on June 16th at the Alta Vista Country Club, located on 777 East Alta Vista. Registration begins at 9:00am and golfers can tee-off, in ‘shotgun’ format, at 11:00am. At 5:00pm, there will be dinner and awards.
