Annual festival celebrates all things Scottish

The 84th annual Scottish Fest USA is taking place next month in Orange County.

The festival is celebrating Scottish culture and will feature bagpipe bands, drummers, and Highland dancers. A range of athletic competitions will include traditional sports such as the Caber Toss and the Hammer Throw. There will be a variety of Scottish and Irish food for sale and vendors will be on hand to sell Celtic-related goods including clothing, artworks, and decorative accessories.

Entertainment will be provided by such artists as the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band, Bad Haggis, Christopher Yates, and the Wicked Tinkers. In addition, there is set to be a British car display.

VIP tickets are available for $250 for Chieftain, which offers a welcome package, a private reception with food and drink, a polo shirt, and preferred seating. The price is $125 for Chairman, which has most of the above except a T-shirt instead of a polo shirt.

Those of Scottish descent, and those who are just interested in the culture, will likely travel from areas like nearby Placentia. Local flyer printing firms may be asked to provide advertising materials to spread the word.

Scottish Fest USA will be held at the OC Fair and Event Center on May 28. General admission is $18 for adults, $16 for seniors, and $3 for children between the ages of 4 and 13. Call 714-708-1500 for more information.
