Sailing event for young people near Monterey

The recurring Sea Scouting events are scheduled to take place close to Monterey throughout this February.

Sea Scouts is a program the Boy Scouts Of America first organized over a century ago. This educational series of events is designed for young people between ages 14 to 20 and teaches sailing skills as well as associated safety practices. Participants can advance from beginner skill levels and onward through in-person, real-life experience. These sailing skills can help participants get a position in the maritime industry, or start a career as a member of the Coast Guard and Navy in the future.

Throughout the duration of the Sea Scouts program, students will learn how to captain vessels ranging from small motorboats to bigger vessels, including yachts under the instruction of experienced ship and boat captains. Other certifiable skills that the program teaches include CPR, lifesaving skills, SCUBA, and boating safety. Participants will Students from Monterey can apply for program registration at their local councils, online, or at school recruiting events, or by emailing captain Kevin Melrose. Brochure printing is commonly chosen by the managers of similar events to provide students and parents with printouts that detail program information.

The February Sea Scouting training events are set to proceed throughout the month on each Wednesday from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Santa Cruz Harbor.
