Monterey to celebrate poets

Monterey will be hosting a weekend of poetry celebration in early October.

This series of events will showcase many styles of poetry, as well as allowing those who want to learn more about the art to give it a try. On the first night, a fundraiser for No More Deaths will also take place.

While attending is free, some portions of the Monterey Poetry Festival have an entry fee. The fundraiser will cost attendees $20 and will feature poems by Chris Siders, Aideed Medina, Jean Vengua, Nelson G Nelson, and Alex Ramirez, beginning at 7:00pm. At 10:00 pm, an open mic will take place with attendance free.

There will also be a feature for CSU students on day two, starting at 3:00pm, costing guests $10. This event will showcase Daniel Summerhill, Liz Wiles, Chrissy Hernandez, and Rocio Carranza-Pineda. The next show, starting at 7:00pm the second day, will cost $10 as well. This will be composed of Brian Sheffield, Jeff Erwin, Chris Carr, Bedrooms, and Davis Mendez.

On the final day, a writing workshop, beginning at 3:00 pm and run by the Boukra Collective, will cost those interested $10. The festival will end with a party, beginning at 7:00 pm, featuring some performances by Virgo Mag, Salt Water, and Lowpass Magazine. This will be a launch party event, costing $10. If attendees wish to come to every event, a festival pass can be bought for $40.

The local store Old Capitol Books will play host to the weekend of artistry. Poster printing is often used to promote festivals like this within the local area. The events will be from October 1 to October 3.
