Monterey to celebrate artichokes

Monterey is back with its Artichoke Festival in late July.

The event is set to celebrate the vegetable, as well as the people who grow them. There is something for everyone to enjoy, with a beer and wine garden for the adults, and also a kids’ area.

Entertainment varies, with chef demos, a main stage, and a family stage. A majority of the acts will be local talent. These are not yet listed, but in the past have included magicians, singers, bands, dancers, and mariachi. For those into motors, a car show is also there.

Multiple competitions also take place, including a quilt challenge. The rules require participants to make a 20” x 20” piece displaying an artichoke, with three layers, as well as a sleeve measuring 4”. These must be received by the office no later than July 17. They also must use some of the fabrics provided by festival organizers.

By purchasing a ticket, attendees agree to follow all Covid-19 protocols set by the organizers, as well as the state and federal governments. Tickets cost $32.54 for a family, $16.78 for an adult, $6.27 for children, and $11.53 for seniors, as well as members of the military. These prices include the processing fees for each type. Each ticket is good for one day only.

The festival occurs on July 24 and 25, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm the first day, and 10:00 am to 5:00 pm the second. It is located at the Monterey Country Fair & Event Center, which is on 2004 Fairground Rd.
