A Monterey course that will explore the ins and outs of safe food handling for growers, buyers, and anyone else who works with produce is set to take place in December. Those interested are welcome to register now.
According to rules set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), each farm that grows food for human consumption must have at least one person who has successfully undertaken training regarding food safety. This option, which is being offered by the Safe Food Alliance, is recognized by the FDA for meeting its criteria.
The runtime for the course is seven hours, and the topics covered will range from soil amendments and an overview of produce safety to how to develop a plan that addresses handling farm grown food in a safe manner. Caring for the crop post-harvest, choosing pre-and post-harvest watering and cleaning systems, and the basics of land use will all be on the syllabus. Certificates will be presented to successful students.
Companies and organizations that offer government-approved training courses can count on being able to obtain custom-designed certificates on completion, along with other documents from area Stationery printers. There will be a wide assortment of options on offer.
This learning opportunity for Monterey’s agricultural sector will be held on Sunday, December 4 at 2 Portola Plaza. The course fee is $35.
