Monterey celebrates 60th Artichoke Festival

The Castroville Artichoke Food & Wine Festival has now been running for 60 years celebrating a community of growers. The festival features live music, food demonstrations, a farmers’ market, and more.

As this event is all about artichokes, there will be chef demonstrations held throughout the event. There is a lineup of six chef presenters from the local area. These demonstrations will cover, of course, cooking methods, but will also be informative about the artichoke plant itself.

The main stage will hold performances and presentations, including live music, magic, and an artichoke eating contest. The stage will be open both days of the festival, and programming will be different between the days.

The farmers’ market will be open both days of the festival in the Salinas Room of the fairgrounds. Artichokes will be heavily featured, but there will also be fresh local produce including berries, spinach, cauliflower, and prepared goods. There will also be a Kids Zone featuring Wild Science!, a display by Imagination Gallery. There will be interactive displays and learning opportunities for people of all ages.

This event will likely use printing services to have printed schedules available, possibly maps, and to have information available for those interested. Given the number of small businesses that will likely be in attendance, many of them may be carrying Business Cards, as well.

The celebration will be held at the Monterey County Fair & Event Center in Monterey on Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2.
