Long Beach plans Beethoven birthday party

One of history's greatest composers has a birthday coming up, and the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra is planning a party.

Ludwig van Beethoven was baptized in 1770, and 2020 celebrates the 250th anniversary of his birth. To honor the occasion, the orchestra will perform his Violin Concerto in D major, which is the only concerto he composed for the violin. The piece starts with five soft drumbeats, a theme that is heard in other parts of the orchestra as the concerto continues. The piece demands a virtuoso player, and the orchestra has found one in Stefan Jackiw.

Jackiw was born in Boston and is of Ukrainian and Korean descent; both his parents are physicists. He is one of the most acclaimed violinists of his generation, and has appeared with major symphony orchestras throughout the world including Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, and New York. A review of one of his appearances says his playing is:

“As pure and as close to perfection as music can get.”

The second work on the program is Franz Schubert’s “Symphony No. 9 in C major, “The Great.” Schubert was an admirer of Beethoven’s work, so it seems fitting that he share the program with his idol.

The concert is scheduled for 8.00 pm on March 7 at the Terrace Theater at the Long Beach Convention Center. Maestro Eckart Preu will be on the podium. Brochure printing can be used to create informative programs for programs like this.
