What's Happening in Long Beach, CA…

Long Beach joins worldwide dance for water

Long Beach dancers recently took part in a worldwide effort to call attention to issues impacting water quality around the globe.

The Global Water Dances event was first held in 2011, and involved people dancing in 67 different places. This year, dancers in over 150 locations were involved. Banner printing can be used to provide decorations for venues involved in efforts like this.

In Long Beach, the dancers were from Vannia Ibarguen Dance Arts (VIDA), a dance studio; and Dance4Oceans. Ibarguen planned the dance, and looked for groups to participate that already brought awareness of environmental issues to their performances. She specifically focused on those who were already performing water-themed dances, or who were already affiliated with environmental organizations, or who simply had a good idea and were interested in taking part.

In addition, she specifically sought Long Beach dancers, and chose to present the dance at Rosie's Dog Beach, since typically Long Beach dancers have to go to Orange County or Los Angeles to perform.

All over the world, groups began dancing at 4.00 pm their local time, which totaled approximately twenty-four straight hours of dancing to help save the oceans. Ibarguen said the dance comprised four parts, each having a different meaning. The first is a ritual water dance, and the second was used to depict local water issues, and was different in each location. The third part was unified choreography of all the groups everywhere, and the last invited audience members to participate.
