Palmdale school kitchen to undergo renovations

The third phase of modernization of the Dos Caminos Dual Immersion School in Palmdale will be a new kitchen with a value of about $2.59m. Residents of nearby Lancaster may be interested in this project once it is completed.

Dos Caminos is part of the campus of the former Juniper Intermediate School district and was built in 1959. The kitchen is the original one, and is now 61 years old. Superintendent Raul Maldonado said that the school is being completely modernized, with the kitchen update being needed to meet the needs of students today. Administrator of the Facilities, Maintenance, and Operations Department of the Palmdale School District, Al Tsai, said the modernization will require gutting of the school and rebuilding it. Tsai added that it is one of the smallest kitchens in the district and serves not only the students in the school, but also those from the Palmdale Discovery Center.

The renovations will provide for a more open layout so that the kitchen staff and the students have more space. The serving line for the cafeteria, which now is outside the building, will be brought inside, so it will be easier for students to get their food and then go into the multipurpose room to eat it.
