A new exhibit, “Formation,” will be opening at the Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) this month.
This exhibit explores the inherent malleability of clay for the body and its experiences. Among the nine artists featured at the exhibit are Sean Yang, Elyse Pignolet, Elana Mann, and Kiel Johnson.
There are 60 individual pieces from various bodies of work in the exhibit. “Bellows and Quakes” by Elana Mann explores the power of collective voice and sound, while “Hysterical” by Elyse Pignolet examines ideas of global exchange, ethnicity, and intersectionality in a post-colonial world through a feminist lens. “Notes on a Morning Walk” is a piece by Kiel Johnson which is an autobiographical series relating his walks every day in the small village in which he lives. “Touch the Trueself Within” is by Sean Yang and examines the tension between handcrafted and reproduced objects using mixed media and ceramics; the piece seeks to further explore individual identity, cultural transformation, and social control.
Local Print shops can contribute to such exhibits by creating Brochures and other printed materials which explain the work of such artists and provide additional context for such pieces.
