Choshu Industries Corp. of America (CICA) will be partnering with the city of Lancaster to integrate the its refueling station and hydrogen production system into the local Green Energy Microgrid (GEM).
Choshu is based in Japan and is a global leader in hydrogen technology and power solutions, semiconductors, environmental equipment, solar energy power stations, and research and development.
Rex Parris, mayor of Lancaster, expressed his excitement about this partnership with the city’s GEM system. He said that as Lancaster looks to become the first ‘Hydrogen City’ in the United States, this will add a backbone of hydrogen to the battery and solar capabilities of the system. The stationary fuel cell power system known as MixTomo, which is the heart of the GEM system and the systems from Choshu, can be scaled to extend the hydrogen capacity of the city to other sectors. Together, the city and Choshu will be looking at other opportunities to supply hydrogen to support the city’s fleet and to help other commercial users.
Parris said the city is committed to replacing all its current gas-powered passenger vehicles with vehicles based on hydrogen as and when the leases on the gas-powered vehicles expire.
