BYD Motors, a China-based company operating from Lancaster, recently unveiled its first two electric driven, zero-emissions buses.
The 40-foot buses are capable of running 155 miles between charges holding for 24 hours. The buses were built for, and delivered to, The Antelope Valley Transit.
A ceremony at the Lancaster facility was held on the last Monday in April and attended by Gov. Jerry Brown to celebrate the successful completion of these initial buses. Other officials at the ceremony were Stella Li (senior vice president of BYD), Michael Austin (the company's first American employee and company vice president), as well as R. Rex Parris (mayor of Lancaster).
Although a Chinese company that is traded on the Hong Kong stock exchange, about 60% of BYD Motors stock is held by U.S.-based investors. Berkshire Hathaway has a sizable investment in the company, with the Warren Buffett directed investment firm owning almost 10%.
When publicly traded companies such as BYD need to attract investors, they employ Print companies to produce a prospective. They are also needed for business card and Stationery printing.
BYD is the first Chinese-owned facility to build vehicles in the U.S. In addition to the assembling the electric buses here, the company is also involved in battery production in Lancaster.
The firm has been contracted to provide the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority 25 buses and is rebidding on a contract with Long Beach transit.
