Antelope Valley College in Lancaster has some program openings for the fall.

Applications are still being accepted for the Student Transfer Academic Retention (STAR) program for the fall 2020 semester. This is a TRIO program funded by the federal government, designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Those who are eligible are those students whose parents did not graduate from college with a bachelor’s degree. Others who are eligible to apply for the program are those who have a documented disability or financial need. All applicants must be permanent residents or citizens of the United States.

Colleges often turn to printing services to create materials to inform students of such opportunities.

The STAR program provides priority registration, tutoring in English and math, assistance with transfers, academic goal setting, and career counseling. The program also offers supplemental instruction, tutoring, help with study skills, academic enrichment classes, computer literacy and research skills, and assistance with scholarship and financial aid applications.

Enrollment is also open for courses in criminal law. One basic course will cover the origin and development of law and will include an examination of California State statutes, the constitutions of the United States and California, and English Common Law. Also to be discussed in the course is the distinction between felonies and misdemeanors, crimes and torts, and jurisdiction and venue.
