Antelope Valley College (AVC) in Lancaster will be holding a special event in its Art Gallery in the Fine Arts Building next month.
Such events are often advertised and promoted throughout the college and greater community with poster printing.
For one afternoon, all current and former members of the foster care community will be encouraged to be at the gallery, where there will be a wall-sized map on which people can share their stories of where they have lived in the past, where they live now and what they are doing, and where they hope to find themselves in the future.
Those from all parts of the community and of all ages are encouraged to visit the gallery and place a sticker with the zip codes of their past and current homes, and to share their drawings, hopes, dreams, and experiences in the memory book that accompanies the map. Staff from the gallery will be at the front desk to assist with any questions and guide people through the process.
AVC Student Equity is presenting this event to show how linguistic codes of artists and cartographers help to explore what it means to share a space as home. This event called Locating your Past/Launching your Future will be held at the art gallery on Wednesday, October 5 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm.
