Laguna Hills to enjoy retro rock

A distinctive band will be playing rock in Laguna Hills this weekend.

Foxy Codon is set to play a concert at Neighbors Bar & Grille, bringing retro rock to the community. The name of the group is a play on “oxycodone,” a powerful medication prescribed for pain. Fittingly, the band includes doctors in its lineup.

Formed in 2017, the group emerged from a number of physicians who love music. They quickly found a following in Orange County, where audiences enjoyed their energetic covers of the hits of the ‘80s and ‘90s. As inspiration, the group cites The Go-Go’s, Scandal, the Motels, The Bangles, Heart, Hole, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, and Blondie. They also occasionally play punk, new wave, edgy, and alternative rock.

Among the band members is Dr. Ena Kariya, who has been a board-certified specialist in family medicine for 18 years, working at MemorialCare Medical Group in Costa Mesa. Describing herself as a doctor by day and a rock star at night, she began playing the flute in junior high school, and now plays keyboard and flute for Foxy Condon, as well as providing vocals.

The band will appear this Saturday, November 1 from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm at the restaurant, which is at 24401 Ridge Route Drive, Suite B-105. When they schedule events like this, organizers can use flyer printing methods to create handouts, which are an economical way to advertise local concerts like this.
