Day hike planned in Laguna Hills

An event open to all has been planned by Laguna Hills city staff members.

The event is an upcoming day hike that will take participants to the Devil’s Punchbowl Natural Area, where they will hike the Devil’s Chair Trail. The trail is an out-and-back route that is about 7.5 miles in length and has a gain in elevation of approximately 1,463 feet. This classifies it as a “moderately strenuous” effort.

The trail is a single-track route that provides gorgeous views of the Punchbowl, which gets its name from its shape. It is a gorge in the shape of a bowl that was formed when three earthquake faults collided millions of years ago. The San Gabriel Mountains, which wear a coat of snow in the winter, border the park and provide a dramatic background to the Punchbowl’s twisted terrain and white cliffs.

Staff members from the city will provide transportation to the Punchbowl from the Laguna Hills Community Center, where participants should plan to meet. Reservations cannot be transferred or refunds made for day hikes. Participants should plan to dress in layers, bring a sack lunch and any snacks they would like, and sufficient water. They should also wear sun block and suitable footwear.

The hike is scheduled for January 20, runs from 7.00 am until 7.00 pm, and the fee is $20. When they plan events like this, organizers might consider using flyer printing to create handouts to distribute locally, especially at the community center.
