The City of Laguna Hills has arranged upcoming events for people who enjoy being outdoors.
City staff members will be providing transportation to people for an upcoming day hike. The outing will take place at Los Penasquitos Preserve in San Diego County, where participants will hike a loop trail. The route is approximately seven miles in length, but there is only a modest 157 feet of elevation gain.
Hikers will be able to enjoy both Los Penasquitos Canyon and Lopez Canyon, which is a tributary. The Preserve has a rich ecosystem that includes a huge variety of mammals, amphibians, and reptiles, over 175 different types of birds, and more than 500 species of plants. Many of these animals and plants are either endangered or rare, and are protected inside the Preserve.
In addition to the hike, participants will visit Santa Maria de Los Penasquitos Adobe, which dates from approximately 1823, and which has been restored. They will also visit another adobe, the ruined El Cuervo, built about 1857.
Organizers advise participants to wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes, be prepared for sun, and bring water, a sack lunch, and snacks to enjoy during the day.
The Los Penasquitos Preserve outing is set for February 9, from 7.00 am until 6.00 pm. The fee is $25, and hikers should meet at the Laguna Hills Community Center. When they plan events like this, organizers may work with flyer printing to create handouts for the local area advertising the event.
