On the morning of November 6, for the second year in a row, approximately 120 motorcyclists started from Huntington Beach Pier on the Veterans Honor Ride. The event was a fundraiser, as well as a way to show support for veterans, and was hosted by American Legion and the Association of the United States Army volunteers.
The event began with an opening ceremony that included playing the national anthem. After that, motorcycles, a few Jeeps, and some tricycles started off, under the direction of retired Brigadier General Jim Combs.
General Combs is a veteran of three wars, dating back to his service in Vietnam. He said the support displayed at the event meant a lot to veterans, particularly if they had served in Vietnam, because they came home to a divided nation and faced a lot of hostility. The welcome they should have received when they first returned is now being shown to them, said Combs, adding that he was proud of Huntington Beach for showing its support for veterans in general.
After they left the pier, the bikers rode through Seal Beach and Long Beach, stopping long enough to visit veterans in the VA Hospital there. The ride ended in Los Alamitos.
