The use of horses in therapy to help humans is becoming more common, and now an event is planned to celebrate these animals.
The Free Rein Foundation has organized a 3K Walk for Rescued Horses. The organization rescues horses, rehabilitates them, and uses them in Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) and Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) programs to help humans.
Equine-assisted therapy is a non-traditional approach that uses activities with the horses to give people opportunities to learn how to manage difficult situations, control their fears, and function in society. Free Rein's programs have benefited people by helping them process trauma, grief, and loss, and deal with addiction, anger issues, depression, and anxiety.
At the event, attendees will be able to meet some of the horses that are having a positive effect on people's lives, and take photos of them. There will be a scavenger hunt, booths, food, drink, prizes, and gifts, as well as “Walk for Horses” T-Shirts.
The 3K Walk for Horses runs from 8:00 am until 10:00 am on Sunday, March 1, which is National Horse Protection Day. The location is the Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center on Ellis Avenue in Huntington Beach. Tickets are $20 until February 16; $25 after that date; and $35 at the event. Children under six will be admitted free, with all proceeds going to support the equine therapy programs.
