An event that celebrates a vital natural resource is scheduled for Huntington Beach.
The Blessing of the Waves is an annual event that brings together people from many cultures and walks of life to celebrate the importance of water in human life.
There will be a number of guest speakers from a variety of faiths, as well as professional athletes, most of whom are involved with water sports. There will also be surfers joining in the festivities. Attendees and speakers will discuss how important water is to life, particularly in this beach community. They will also acknowledge that water is precious and even though it has made Huntington Beach a vacation spot, it also needs to be protected, honored, and the environment respected.
The day is particularly important to residents of Huntington Beach, since the city has what it calls a “water culture,” which is the center of its life. More than five million people come to Huntington Beach every year to enjoy the nine-mile beach, as well as the water-oriented activities in Huntington Harbor. The event draws as many as 1,000 people every year.
The Blessing of the Waves will take place September 12 at the Upper Pier Plaza of the Huntington Beach Pier. Organizers of outdoor events like this can work with banner printing to create fun decorations that will withstand poor weather.
