Opportunity to restore wetlands in Huntington Beach
An ongoing series of events allows people who are interested in preserving natural habitat to spend some time outdoors to benefit the area.
OC Habitats (OCH) has organized a series of restoration events at the Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy. Volunteers at these projects work to restore the habitat of the saltwater marsh. Workers pick up debris around the area, plant native species, and remove invasive species. The outings also give volunteers an unparalleled opportunity to learn more about flora native to the area, and the wetland ecosystem. Huntington Beach has four wetland areas, plus a wildlife center.
To keep everyone safe, health guidelines will be observed. All participants are required to wear a face mask that covers both nose and mouth, and to remain the minimum recommended six-foot distance from others who are not in the same “pod.” The organizers will provide gloves and tools but recommend that attendees also bring gloves. Water will be provided at a refill station, as will hand sanitizer. Flyer printing can be used to create instruction sheets for events like this.
The work dates are April 17 and May 15, from 9.00 am until 12.00 pm both days. The event is free and so is parking, but registration is necessary, and those who have not participated in an OCH in the past year must sign their waiver. Those under 18 will have to have a waiver signed by a guardian or parent.
