Runners will have the opportunity to enjoy marathons soon, as Huntington Beach welcomes the new year with these popular races.
The Cowabunga Beach Challenge is a timed, one-mile run. All participants will be given a cape, commemorative bib, and a finisher’s medal. Those who complete the Cowabunga Challenge and also take part in one of the other marathons will be given a special medal for finishing.
The Surf City Half Marathon is an award-winning race that attracts runners from around the world. Runners parallel the Pacific Coast Highway, pass the Huntington Beach Pier, turn at scenic Bolsa Chica Wetlands, and pass Main Street on the way to the finish. The oceanfront course is flat, and offers stunning scenery for racers to enjoy.
The half marathon will have a wave start, meaning groups will be given the signal to start in intervals of two to three minutes. Groups are put together depending on how long they are expected to take to complete the race.
The full marathon follows the same course, but also goes through Huntington Central Park.
The Cowabunga Beach Challenge start at 11:00 am on February 1. The half-marathon will take place February 2 starting at 7:45 am, with the full marathon, also on February 2, starting at 6:25 am for those in wheelchairs and 6:30 am for those running the course. A total of almost 20,000 people are expected to race. Banner printing can be used to create streamers to mark the course of events like this.
