Huntington Beach can proudly announce that it will soon be re-categorized as a Class 1 community by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification program (PPC).
The rating will become effective July 1, and places Huntington Beach in a category only 61 other communities across the country can claim. It offers very real benefits for both residential and business owners.
The Class 1 rating is the highest offered by ISO; an independent organization that works on behalf of insurers, communities, fire departments, and other groups concerned with risk evaluation.
ISO gathers information from municipalities on a community’s fire suppression capabilities. Based on a Fire Suppression Rating Schedule, the data is analyzed and the municipality is placed in a category that ranges from 1 to 10, with 1 being the top classification. This ranking is used by insurance carriers as a variable in a formula used to determine property insurance premiums.
Communities are evaluated based on a uniform set of standards that use criteria developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the American Water Works Association.
For everything from a local printing company in the heart of downtown Huntington Beach to a single family home in a residential neighborhood, the property insurance premiums should be lower after July 1.
