California’s coastline is home to a diverse mix of species of plants, animals, algae, and other organisms, and an upcoming activity will draw attention to the threats they face.
The community of Huntington Beach will be welcoming runners, walkers, and cleaners for the “Running is for the Birds” morning of activities. There are options for every age and ability level, and those who require a mobility device are welcome.
The day will open with check-in, and the five- and ten-kilometer runners will begin their course at the Bolsa Chica State Beach’s main lifeguard tower. The fun run for the kids will kick off at the check-in area, and Amigos De Bolsa, which is a local conservation group, will have a live demonstration set up so the public can learn more about its activities.
It was explained in its listing that the route the runners and walkers will follow will be flat, and chip timing is available. Those who opt to pick up litter as they go, which is known as “plogging,” will have the option to be timed as well. Those who pre-register will be guaranteed a T-shirt that boasts a special graphic design, and finisher’s medals will be handed out at the end of the course. Parking at Bolsa Chica State Beach will be free for the day.
