A film festival that is literally a reflection of the times is planned for Huntington Beach.
The Zeitgeist Film Festival is coming to Huntington Beach’s Waterfront Hilton Resort, and will present films from throughout the world. They will be screened in conjunction with “key” films, such as “This is the End,” released in 2013, “They Live!” from 1988, and 1984’s “Night of the Comet.”
Each of these films deals in some way with a worldwide catastrophe, which is the common thread among all the key films. “This is the End” is a comedy horror film about the Apocalypse, while “They Live!” suggests that aliens are secretly running the world, disguised as humans. Finally, “Night of the Comet” is a horror comedy in which a comet passing close to the earth turns many people into zombies.
The German word Zeitgeist is usually translated as “spirit of the age,” and refers to a force or agent that characterizes a certain era in human history. The coronavirus can arguably be said to be a common concern of the entire world today, and thus serves as the inspiration for the festival.
The event begins June 3, with special guests including Penelope Spheeris, Kelli Maroney, Mary Stewart, and others. Every day will bring discussions, screenings of the various films, exclusive events and parties, and panels. Brochure printing can be used to create informative programs for events like this.
