Dublin Police Services recently took part in a nationwide campaign to help educate the public about the dangers of distracted driving.
Sheriffs, police, and the CHP worked to help raise awareness of topic. They visited schools, gave media interviews, and offered presentations on the importance of driving safely. Dennis Houghtelling, who is the Chief of Police for Dublin, noted that engaging an activity that takes attention away from the road is the same as driving while wearing a blindfold. He remarked that in the case of text messaging, in the five seconds or less that it can take to read a message, a car traveling at 60mph can cover more than the length of a football field. This puts the driver, passengers, and people in other vehicles in danger.
Chief Houghtelling reminded the public that they have a responsibility to be safe drivers, and asked families with teenagers who get behind the wheel to make sure they discuss this with them. He pointed out that the goal of the campaign was to encourage people to drive safely, and that education is where this begins. Printing companies can create Posters, pamphlets, and other promotional items that can help to bring that message home.
The Dublin Police Services were among 200 from across the country who took part in the event throughout the month of April. Get a Free Quote for Posters
