This weekend sees the arrival of the 13th annual Free Comic Book Day in Dublin.
Started by independent stores and others in the comic book industry as a way to get kids to rediscover the art form, it has evolved into a major event through which many indie stores build an entire day around the celebration.
Although not all comic book stores participate in the day, Comic Ink, located on Amador Valley Blvd, is one family-owned store that certainly does. Lovers of the medium can also use a store locator tool on the Comic Book Day website to find a participating venue near them.
Not just any comic book is free during this special event; publishers send stores specific comics that they give away during the day, as well as specific games or pieces of merchandise. Many of the comics are directed towards children, such as Archie, Uncle Scrooge, and Spongebob. For adult fans, there are also titles featuring Batman and the characters from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy feature film.
Those who would like to know more about the upcoming event at Comic Ink should give the store a call at (925) 829-5572. As well as giving away comics, it will also have photo ops (great for bragging to geeky friends with the help of holiday postcard printing services) and special guest signers.
