Students at Dublin’s Fallon Middle School recently held a competition that took a page from the past when the pupils and staff held their first annual swing dance contest.
The students are taught the basics of this form of dancing as part of the physical education curriculum at their school. Pat Hallahan provided instruction for the teachers and staff about how best to deliver this unit of the phys ed program. It turned out that kids enjoyed it so much that they wanted to share their skills with others.
Over a span of three days, they gave lunchtime performances for their teachers, parents and peers. Music from the by gone era when swing was popular was played, and the dancers took to the floor in the school’s gymnasium. A printing company can create special prizes for the winners of such competitions, as well as certificate for all those who took part.
According to OneDublin.Org, those who took part were in the 7th and 8th grades, and they had the full support of the rest of the student body. They also noted that here was a very positive feeling in the school when the competition was taking place. Most importantly, the kids who chose to enter the competition all seemed to be having a lot of fun and getting quite a bit of exercise while they danced.
