Dublin students learn more about life after high school

A pilot program has been launched at Dublin’s Valley High School to help junior and senior level students gain an insight into the possibilities that await them when they graduate.

The program, entitled ‘Gear UP’, takes place in the school’s library twice a week after classes have finished for the day. The students learn more about the different career options available to them, what it takes to find a place in one of these fields in terms of education and job preparedness, and also basic skills that can be used by any job hunter.

Guest speakers in fields like hospitality, healthcare, and banking will be talking to the students, and there will also be information given about résumé writing, job interview skills, and the importance of networking and having a strong work ethic.

The pilot project first began this January, and it is expected to be ongoing throughout the first quarter of the year. It received funding through grants from Braddock & Logan, Chevron, and DPIE.

With programs like this, professional Stationery printers can produce handouts and other instructional materials for the students, as well as Brochures that explain the program and how it can benefit them. They could even Print special certificates to be handed out upon completion of the course to those who have achieved notably.
