New development is on the way for Dublin, and it is expected that it will help to link the east and west sides of the city once work is completed.
Developer SunCal will be developing a large parcel of land on the south side of Camp Parks base. It was granted this land in exchange for constructing six new facilities on the base. The main gate structure, which is the first of the projects, has now been completed. The army reserve considered the land to be surplus and not needed, and for this to be a very equitable exchange.
The development plans include an eventual 1,995 homes, 75,000 to 200,000 square feet of retail commercial and light industrial spaces, 35 acres of parks, and a new elementary school. It is felt that the area’s close proximity to the BART will make it a very attractive option for home buyers.
If all goes as planned, construction is expected to begin in 2015.
A concern that was raised about the project was that it could disturb western burrowing owl habitat, but an agreement was made whereby 313 acres of land will be set aside for the owls.
This new development could bring a lot of spinoff benefits for the local community. Service providers, such as printing companies, will be able to meet the needs of the new businesses expected to occupy the commercial, industrial, and retail spaces being introduced.
